Human beings evolved. This evolution caused us to have certain traits to be baked into our genes. We have tendencies that are hard to overcome. The prefrontal cortex of our brain makes the decisions. I believe that our baked in instincts are always working in the background and affect our decisions.
Our fight or flight instinct, maternal and fraternal instincts, our desire to be part of something greater than ourselves, and many other instincts, are hard to overcome.
One of the problems with today’s society is that we live in an environment that is completely out of touch with our instincts.
Take our need for shooting the shit and communicate with other humans. Facebook, reddit, Substack is no substitute for face-to-face meetings.
Most males wood like to be fathers, bread winners, protectors. Our society is rigged against these things. The media makes these things seem uncool.
The media starts indoctrinating at a young age. Getting high and drunk are cool. Playing video games for hours is cool. Texting is cool, God forbid you talk to somebody by voice.
Don’t get me wrong, I like to have a couple of beers. I like games. But they are not the center of my life.
Being a breadwinner is getting to be harder. It’s hard to have a family when you can’t support them. I think families are important. I had a crappy family. It wasn’t a family really. My parents had little to no interest in what I did. If they had interest, I would have turned out better.
One of the things that pisses me off is that the media is starting to make deadbeat dads look cool.
When we lived in villages and small towns, we had common goals. We no longer have this. You are probably reading this in a city. You have no idea who your neighbors are. You probably have no idea what plans the people who run your city have. When you go out every day, you may notice the homeless. Or you might just filter them out of your sight. You might have an idea how drugs are ruining our society. But as long as you personally are ok, you don’t care.
Enough rambling for now. It’s a good thing nobody reads these things.
