Reality checking on a story can be a bummer.

My main character is going to be taking a bus from one city to another. I had envisioned him going to a nice clean bus station getting a ticket, riding on a nice clean bus, on time. End of trip.

From looking online, it looks like cleanliness and promptness are not the standards anymore.

I know! I’ll turn that little trip into a horror show!

Because he arrives late in the day the station is locked up. To prevent homeless people from sleeping there. When he does get a ticket, the bus arrives 2 hours late. And, that’s just the beginnings of the horror show.

Reality checking is time consuming.
